Gday! I'm James and I'm a wedding photographer from Armidale, NSW. Welcome to my Journal, where you'll find an abundance of photos and stories from my life as a photographer.
I use this Journal to show off the work i'm super proud of, to show off my dearly loved clients and to show you just how cool my job really is. There is a common theme throughout the Journal, and the theme is passion. Everything on here is to do with my passion for life, and my passion as a photographer.
Things are pretty relaxed around here, so drop me a line by email james@jamesday.com.au or leave a comment on the Journal.
Thanks for checking us out and remember to keep the passion alive.

Matt & Katie are the newly famous team at Shadowplay Photography & Video, based in Toowoomba! Matt & Katie, come back! I had way too good a time while you were in town…. and you desperately need to come back again and visit me!
These guys are friends with one of my previous clients Maddie and Steve who’s wedding I photographed a few years ago now.. and apparently after Maddie & Steve told Katie who shot their wedding, Katie spent the next 4 hours on my blog going through all my images. What a compliment!
I then heard from Matt and Katie asking if they could come and visit me for a few days. I looked at their work, and the tables were turned.. I started begging them to come.
While Matt and Katie were here, we, as a team, photographed and filmed Alex and Danika’s Wedding. Poor Matt got his foot run over by one of the groomsmans cars.. but I believe he’s doing better now. Not to mention any names..(ADAM ADAM ADAM ADAM ADAM ADAM ADAM ADAM)
We also did a heap of other things while they were here.. we made a promo video for the new blog, did a shoot of Matt & Katie, and a few other fun videos which I will share with you shortly.
For the first installment, here we have Matt & Katie’s images from a shoot I did of them. Believe it or not, Matt & Katie didn’t really have any nice images of themselves together, so I was happy to oblige.
In the next few days, I will share the awesome Wedding Video Teaser that Matt put together for Alex and Danika as well as a funny video poking fun at a wedding photographer friend of mine - they’ve seen it and are planning revenge - look out world!
Here are some of the images from Matt and Katie’s sweetheart shoot.

This one is for Lauren’s parents! Look… she’s waving at you!

onto random news of the week.
*My car got smashed again - parked right out front of my house. All they stole was a GPS. If they’re lost, they should have knocked on the door and asked for directions!
*Thank you to everyone who is linking to me on their blogs. It seriously blows me away when I look at my stats page and see all the new people linking to me all the time and being surrrounded by such inspiring names in your inspiration sections of your websites. Seriously, I’m not worthy!
*Lauren is settling into life here in Armidale, she’s started a job today. I might have to go on there one day with a camera and spy on her working and put photos up here. Lauren is that ok?
*I now have an accounts guy in the office and never have to think about money ever again! Welcome Sam!
*I am still gyming it up and trying to eat healthily. Kicking the chocolate completely is hard though.
*I’m getting so excited about travelling to Hawaii to shoot a wedding for Richard and Kristi, their pics are coming soon!

On Alex’s grandparents 50th Wedding Anniversary, Alex and his new wife Danika were married. I am so happy for both of these people who I consider extremely close friends. I met Alex when I was 18, and I applied for a job at the photography studio he worked at. We actually grew up in the same church, but I ignored him because I thought he was a TAS boy, (a private school in armidale) and I had a thing against them. Turned out I was totally wrong, he was homeschooled and actually an awesome bloke. There’s a lesson against being prejudiced!
I am lying here in bed, nursing extremely sore feet and legs, meanwhile considering how I have such a special role in being the story teller of Alex & Danika’s wedding day.
This was a special day for me for so many reasons. Firstly I had the pleasure of hanging out with some of my most favourite people on the entire planet, also I had the pleasure of having a gorgeous young lady to glance over at for most of the day.. none other than Lauren, who was also a guest at the wedding.
Matt & Katie from Shadowplay also travelled from Toowoomba to hang out with me for the day.. and are actually hanging around for a few days to film a promotional piece for my new blog! Which is so so so nearly ready. These guys have my full adoration!
I know there are quite literally hundreds of people who are just itching to see these photos, and so I am going to have a power trip and make you wait. I am going to put up a few photos every day for the next few days.. and draw it out a little.. Oh come on.. it will be fun!
I missed my video light while I was away..glad to be back with you darling!

I found these big red lips in a candy store in Calgary and just knew I had to bring some back for Alex & Danika’s Wedding.

more to follow..

more yet to come…

Sometimes you meet people, for reasons beyond that are obvious straight away, and that’s completely how K and I both felt when we met to do her and R’s engagement shoot in Vancouver Canada. I was in Vancouver photographing an engagement shoot for Richard & Kristi, who met me at one of the weddings I shot in Canada, and asked If I could shoot their engagement and wedding pictures! I got the shock of my life when they told me the wedding was in Maui, Hawaii… and that they would fly me there to shoot it! Wicked!
You might remember that I put a photo of a guy with a ferrett on my blog while I was in Vancouver, and K was a blog reader, so she saw that and contacted me and organised for me to shoot her engagement photos the following morning at 7am. I’m always up for last minute randomness so I was happy!
K is a weddingbee blogger, which basically means that she’s rather famous in the online wedding world.. and thousands of brides around the world read her blog looking for inspiration for their own wedding.. so I felt EXTREMELY privileged to be asked to take these photos for her and R.
K and R are getting married this November in the Dominican Republic, and unfortunately they already booked another photographer to shoot their wedding.. but I was lucky enough to get to spend this time with them doing their engagement photos.
I can’t wait to hang out with you guys again. I will be back!
Welcome to everyone that has arrived here from WeddingBee! You know you’re totally welcome here and I hope to see you commenting and checking this place out daily!

To see more from this shoot, go to my main website www.jamesday.com.au and enter the website (not the Journal) and enter the client access code “serendipity” to view more photos.
In other news, I have Matt and Katie from the Shadowplay team visiting until tuesday. They’re rocking it out with me tomorrow at Alex and Danikas Wedding. Matt does video, Katie does photo.. so it’s going to be pretty much an intense, but fun day. We also have another Matt visiting from X-Sight Brisbane who will be shooting with us as well.. Alex and Danika are going to have a whole team of photogs, and a video!

p.s. Lauren, you’re amazing and I love you more every day.

5 hours.15 minutes.
You can only begin to imagine my excitement knowing that a dream of mine for the past 2 years is about to come true. As most of you know, just over 2 years ago I met a GORGEOUS lady, who at that time resided in Canada. As of today, in 5 hours and 13 minutes, Lauren will be in Armidale, my home town, to live (until her visa expires and then we’ll see what happens next!).
Lauren has sacrificed alot to make this move, and for that I am truly amazed, and my love for her has just grown stronger. She has for the moment, left her family and friends and her polite and wonderful Canadian country for little old Armidale, and me.
Am I worthy? Nuh uh. Am I grateful. Yes Sir!
5 hours. 10 minutes!
What will Lauren be doing here in Armidale I hear you ask. Lauren will be looking for work. Keep your ears to the ground and let us know if something super cool comes up.

Thankyou Rob & Lauren for this shot - one of our favourites!
What will I be doing while she’s here? Going to the gym of course!

Let me take you back to my life between the age of 16-19. I used to be a fitness junkie. I was at the gym every day. I personally trained a few clients. I drank protein shakes. I sipped Creatine. I put Cayenne pepper on everything because it sped up the metabolism. I thought the same for freezing cold water to drink.
Last few years: I think the only consistent thing I do these days diet related is eat copious amounts of chocolate every day.
Today: I joined the gym.
Tonight: I started eating healthy.
It always works in that order for me. I start working out, then I automatically eat healthily.
I plan to track my progress and share it on here. Wish me luck, and feel free to share tips or share fat jokes in the comments section.
Your job is to keep me accountable. Feel free to leave comments under any future posts, telling me to get off my lazy ass and exercise. If you know me personally, encourage me to eat well, and organise a game of basketball or some exercise hang out time with me.
Beach body here I come. Damn I’m going to be sexy.

Hey James,
Lovin’ the photos mate - #5 is my fav so far. As a married couple who spends all their time behind the camera Katie and I have virtually no photos of ourselves, so you can’t imagine how much it means for us to have these images.
That photo of Lauren is a crack up!

These are beautiful! I’m trying real hard but I just can’t pick a favorite, they’re all so lovely. Katie… didn’t I tell you these would be beyond spectacular?? No doubt in my mind! Nice work as always, James.

What not more Lindt chocolate for you? I lasted 6 weeks and then caved, but I’m not eating as much as I used to so it’s all good.
Love the photos BTW
Can’t wait to see your video.
