Richard & Kristi

Friday, September 12th, 2008

Finally!
I have time to blog… sort of..
I have 10 minutes before picking up Lauren from work.
Ok let’s see how much we can do in 10 minutes!

I met Richard and Kristi at a wedding I second shot in Canada.. Kristi was the sister of the bride and was awesome to shoot then… so I couldn’t wait for the opportunity to photograph her again. I CANNOT wait to shoot their wedding next month in Hawaii!!!! Lauren and I are both going for a few days mid week between my other weddings. It’s going to be a blast!

Richard & Kristi are both animators and richard was actually involved in making Yakkity Yak. I might be spelling that wrong..

Serendipity in Vancouver

Friday, August 29th, 2008

Sometimes you meet people, for reasons beyond that are obvious straight away, and that’s completely how K and I both felt when we met to do her and R’s engagement shoot in Vancouver Canada. I was in Vancouver photographing an engagement shoot for Richard & Kristi, who met me at one of the weddings I shot in Canada, and asked If I could shoot their engagement and wedding pictures! I got the shock of my life when they told me the wedding was in Maui, Hawaii… and that they would fly me there to shoot it! Wicked!
You might remember that I put a photo of a guy with a ferrett on my blog while I was in Vancouver, and K was a blog reader, so she saw that and contacted me and organised for me to shoot her engagement photos the following morning at 7am. I’m always up for last minute randomness so I was happy!

K is a weddingbee blogger, which basically means that she’s rather famous in the online wedding world.. and thousands of brides around the world read her blog looking for inspiration for their own wedding.. so I felt EXTREMELY privileged to be asked to take these photos for her and R.

K and R are getting married this November in the Dominican Republic, and unfortunately they already booked another photographer to shoot their wedding.. but I was lucky enough to get to spend this time with them doing their engagement photos.

I can’t wait to hang out with you guys again. I will be back!

Welcome to everyone that has arrived here from WeddingBee! You know you’re totally welcome here and I hope to see you commenting and checking this place out daily!

To see more from this shoot, go to my main website www.jamesday.com.au and enter the website (not the Journal) and enter the client access code “serendipity” to view more photos.

In other news, I have Matt and Katie from the Shadowplay team visiting until tuesday. They’re rocking it out with me tomorrow at Alex and Danikas Wedding. Matt does video, Katie does photo.. so it’s going to be pretty much an intense, but fun day. We also have another Matt visiting from X-Sight Brisbane who will be shooting with us as well.. Alex and Danika are going to have a whole team of photogs, and a video!

p.s. Lauren, you’re amazing and I love you more every day.

Rob and Lauren rock :-)

I woke up at 5am this morning.. rather annoyed.. as it didn’t seem I would be able to get back to sleep.. & I’ve got a super busy day today, so I needed all the sleep I could get.. but then shortly after waking up…my blackberry went off with a facebook wall post from Rob and Lauren telling me that I’ve been blogified! -meaning that the shoot that they did of Lauren and I is now on their blog.
I was expecting good things from them, and I gave them a super hard time while they were shooting me. I did my random fake posing, I stuck my middle finger up at them alot..apparently there were enough photos from that for a full blog post.
I am so blown away with the results. What do you guys thing? Isn’t Lauren gorgeous! That isn’t a question… it’s a definite.

See more on their blog at www.robandlauren.ca OR CLICK HERE

Thanks again Rob and Lauren!

& a note to my lauren.. don’t we look hot together? Smokin!

Thank you Canada!

I am sitting in a lounge in Vancouver airport, thinking back on all the wonderful times I’ve had. It’s with much regret that I’m leaving, but I know that there are exciting things ahead both in my personal life and work life. I am leaving Canada with a bevy of information, new ideas for products and services and most importantly I know that customer service and client satisfaction (more than just simply satisfied is what I’m aiming for!) will just keep on improving.

I want to give a shout out to a few people who had an impact on my life in some way while I was away. This is in no particular order! and this is by no means everyone.. just a select few.

Lauren (my one and only) -Keith and Maureen - Perry Thompson - The girls at Kids Photo - Mike Wark - Rob and Lauren - Connections Christian Church - Mark Pawlszyn -

There are other people who I met who taught me lots and I appreciated them being so open and sharing with me. Namely..
The Becker, Jessica Claire, Jasmine Star, Justin Demers, John Edgar, Dave Cheung.. you guys are industry leaders and I’m blessed to have met you all!

Thank you thank you thank you to everyone who has been marvellous to me though while I’ve been away.. and most of all.. there is one thing I will miss..

..Canada Dry Ginger Ale!!!!!

A quick question for you all before signing off.. as it’s late and I’ve been too tired to do any real work.. I’ve found myself chatting on facebook chat, and reading photographers blogs.
I am generally pretty bored by alot of the blogs I see as almost everyone’s work looks the same these days.. but there are a few that just blow my mind.

As I’m always looking to see what’s going on out there in the industry.. I’d love your recommendations as to what blogs I could check out. In the next few days I’ll give a full list of all the photographers blogs that I check out regularly!

Who’s blogs do you read? & Brides.. what do you think of this whole photographers blogging thing anyway? Are you sick of photographers talking about themselves or do you like it?

…of Lauren!
When I got back to Calgary today from my trip to Vancouver, I was showing her some of the photos I shot at the 2 engagement shoots I did when I was there.. then she asked about some of the photos that Perry took of us last week and asked if she could edit one of them.. She always watches me edit photos, so she’s got a fairly good idea but this one made me feel a little worried that she might take over my business and show me how it’s done when she moves back to Australia with me. :-)

Here’s what she came up with from Perry’s photo of her and I together. By the way Perry we love this photo!
