Hey there! I'm James & welcome to my brand new Journal. I update this Journal every few days so that you'll become hooked on my work and hire me! May as well be honest, right?
Make sure you check back often, leave me some comments and go back through the history to see what I've been up to.
While I live in Armidale, NSW, Australia, I am available to photograph anywhere and everywhere. If you've got something you'd like me to photograph, please get on that phone and tell me about it!
Wondering why it’s been a bit slow around here? It’s because I’ve been working on my new project, “Three Words by James Day.”
This will all be redirected to the new site shortly, but until then, check out the new site and new inspiration Journal. Please update the rss feed thingys!
*just thought i’d write this quick note letting everyone know that I think there is something weird going on with the comments box below? Please try and leave a comment, but I’m sorry in advance if it doesn’t work. Thanks to everyone who has facebooked me or emailled me with their comments instead*
Samuel & Olivia are 2 very awesome people who were up for anything.
So, when my 5d Mark 2 Camera (that shoots photos and video) arrived half an hour before their engagement shoot, I decided to take a chance and give photo and video a go. I love surprising clients.
There are some very impressive new videos out there showing off this camera and it’s video capabilities, my only problem with them is that they have all been with professional models, in controlled conditions, lighting, assistants.. plenty of time.. and without having to shoot images at the same time.
So what happens when a photographer picks up a camera and does photo and video by themselves? Check out the results below.
The video was all shot by me, and edited in free software, iMovie HD, by Matt Ebenezer from shadowplay…matt makes me look awesome with his great video editing. Thank you!
Make sure you check out the Shadowplay blog for a much better written evaluation of the camera and experience, and also Katie’s awesome shots from her second shooting role. Thanks to Lydia Cole for allowing us to use her song!
My name is Joe Hardy and I did a lot of the design and backend work for this new look. The project has been some time in the making, but we’re finally here and James and I are excited to finally unleash our work to the masses. I hope you all find it an easy-to-use and exciting way to keep up-to-date with what James has been up to.
In this post I’ll explain a few of the blog’s new features.
James’ first priority for this new blog was that it had to be clean and simple to use - everything you wanted to see, and nothing you don’t.
We’ve gone for a new approach to displaying the photos that James posts. Instead of pages and pages of photos, instead you’ll see a feature image and lots of thumbnails below it. Click a thumbnail and the new image will load right there. It saves you scrolling, and looks awesome!
Wondering where how you can view posts by topic? Have a look next to each post title - you’ll see one or more keywords inside a set of parentheses. Click one of these keywords, and you’ll see all posts that relate to it.
The logo up the top has a couple of surprises - mouse over it and you’ll see options to view a special video intro and a brief bio about James.
Please contribute your thoughts by adding comments - we’d love to hear what you think!
(P.S. I’ve included some photos to demonstrate the new image gallery. I don’t have any new photos by James to upload, so these photos I took of my daughter Nadia will have to do instead!)
You might remember that shadowplay made a trip to Armidale recently, and while they were in town I did a sweetheart shoot with them. Well, they brought their friend Maddy along, and I brought Lauren along (my girlfriend) and together, they took some video of the experience. Matt just sent me a text telling me to check out his blog, and lo and behold, there’s the video, with the images mixed in.
