Steph (sweetheart shoot and watershoot in 1)

Monday, March 17th, 2008

Wow times a million, did I have the most incredible shoot the other night. Steph, came into my studio and asked about doing a shoot that involved water, a field, and perhaps doing some which involved her boyfriend!
After I came back from the shoot, I found that some scumbag had smashed my car window, so there was the 3rd thing! 1st: Hole in the pants. 2nd: Hole in fuel tank. 3rd: Hole in my window.

Here’s what I came up with.

on the way out, I was telling Steph that I usually find that the best shots are taken at the end of the shoot. I was kinda wrong today.. this was one of our first ones.

& this was taken shortly after with my 70-200mm lens, filled in with a bit of reflector light!

I love it when I get to do a shoot like this I can really experiment and do the non safe shots. This was looking straight into the sun.

Now there were way too many cool shots to share in 1 Journal entry.. so I will split this up into 2 posts and post more later in the week.

Also coming up later this week will be a shoot for the band called “The Discards”, and they will also be debuting a few new songs which have just been mixed on this Journal!

Also, and most importantly, I am extremely keen to do more of these shoots! If you know of anyone, or you are interested in having some ultra super dooper awesome photos of you and your loved one together, and doing some amazing portraiture of your gorgeous self.. then shoot me an email at james@jamesday.com.au

Sacha & John

Monday, August 13th, 2007

I get alot of comments from a blog reader named Sacha.. and she posts as S and is very very secretive.. The mysterious “S” has been revealed.
Well a while back S asked about doing a shoot with me.. even though there’s no wedding going on yet.. (just hurry up and ask John, you know she’ll say yes!).
I was pretty excited about the idea as Sacha lives in Melbourne, and also runs the huge wedding related business called Bridal Survival. I recommend all my brides to get one of the kits well before the big day.
It was so much fun… we wandered around the alley ways of Melbourne city. Apparently though Melbourne has the highest amount of wedding photographers per capita, apart from New York, I’d believe it! They seem to be everywhere there. I’ll be writing a post tomorrow, as well as sharing some photos of Australia’s Best Wedding Photographer (in my opinion), Simon James & also a really cool shoot I did of Lauren in the city.
Lots of stories to share.. but for now.. enjoy these images.

Sweetheart Shoot

Tuesday, June 19th, 2007

Yesterday evening, I was talking with Keith and Maureen (lauren’s parents) and I said that at some point while i’m here i’d love to do some photos of them together.. before I could even blink, they were all ready to go, and we were in the car. I said that i’d do the shoot similar to an engagement shoot… but I think the shoot would probably be best described as a “sweetheart shoot”. After we spent 20 minutes doing that.. I ended up getting out the tripod & taking some photos of Lauren & I myself..
Also, you’ll probably be surprised to know that these photos were taken with a little compact point and shoot digital camera.. no fancy digital slr.
