New York (July 06)

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008

In July 2006, I spent nearly a month in New York, just photographing around the streets, wandering aimlessly, spending stupid amounts of cash, and generally having the time of my life. I met some of the most amazing people on the streets of New York… I loved sitting with the homeless people and finding out their stories and being blessed through the experience.
It was this trip that enabled me to meet the love of my life, Lauren, so It holds a special place in my heart for more than 1 reason.

I hope one day soon I find myself back in that amazing city. I hope it’s work that takes me there too.. I am very keen to shoot a wedding in New York! (hint hint)

I just thought I’d share some images from my trip.

Ben & Kristy + MEAT RAFFLE

Saturday, August 18th, 2007

Firstly, before I get into telling you about the shoot.. I need everyone to know that I won the Meat Tray Raffle at the Catholic Club in Coffs Harbour!!! I walked so proudly into the room where they were handing out the meat tray’s, and I had the biggest smirk on my face.. and I heard a lady say, “Don’t get too excited, it’s only a Meat Tray.” Only a meat tray? No way. OK, maybe.. Just play along.

Ok, most importantly.. I was in Coffs to shoot Ben & Kristy’s engagement session. Ben & Kristy were a great little surprise packet for me.. They were just so easy to photograph. They were comfortable, fun, and obviously felt free to move around. Ben & Kristy will be married on the 20th of October, 2007 at Bindarri Retreat, which is just outside of Coffs Harbour.

Here are the pictures.

QLD

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

Lauren & I just got back from visiting QLD. We spent a few days with Paula and Kesha, then went up north to Australia Zoo, which was definitely the highlight of Lauren’s trip so far! It was cool that she got to pet Kangaroos, see Crocs, and fall in love with Wombats. The highlight for me here was spotting Abigail Breslin who was in the movie ‘Little Miss Sunshine’. I chased after her and got a photo with her.. Actually, I had no idea who the heck she was.. and I didn’t even know that the movie existed.. It was Lauren that pointed her out, and explained to me who she was before I stalked her through Australia Zoo.
After that we went further north again, and visited Noosa. The weather was no less than perfect the whole time we were away. This meant that sunbathing on the beach in Noosa and swimming in the ocean in the middle of winter was rather doable. It was around the 25-27 degrees mark.
After that, we went to visit Byron Bay, a touristy hippy town and enjoyed good food.. my tip is when you visit restaurants in Byron, go to the little restaurants, not the big chains.

.

This is a trailer for Little Miss Sunshine. Lauren and I are going to watch it tonight…

Travels

Wednesday, July 25th, 2007

Just thought i’d update everyone on my whereabouts.

Lauren and I have travelled up to Brisbane to visit 2 very close friends of mine, Paula and Kesha. We’re having an amazing time so far.. on monday night we went to a NRL game, we watched the Bronco’s play the Eels at Suncorp Stadium. I was going for the Bronco’s until the Eels won.

On tuesday we went to the Gold Coast. We had originally planned to go to Movie World, but then we got in line and both randomly decided that we didn’t want to go there anymore..so we went right into the heart of the Gold Coast, and went to the Beach, then to Ripley’s Believe it or Not! Museum. I wasn’t expecting much, but it was really worth the $15 admission fee.

Then yesterday afternoon, Lauren and I visited Photo Continental, which is the largest camera store in the southern hemisphere. There I ran into Toni Snell who is a photographer from Brisbane, who introduced herself to me by saying, “James, what are you doing here?” She then, lets me know that she reads my blog and that I don’t know who she is..

Wow, there’s someone other than Lauren who reads this!

Today’s going to be a great day.. we’ve got a whole heap of fun things to do today.. including recording in a music studio!

Then on Saturday, we’re going to visit Australia Zoo. I hope I see Bindi!!! She’s my hero.. I heard she has a fitness DVD coming out?? Can anyone confirm this? If I see her, I’m going to ask her for a Loan. That girl must have a huge inheritance coming her way.

Oh, and my friend Jesh De Rox has inspired me to
start a poll and find out who everyone is. So please choose the one that suits you best!

Thanks to Toni Snell & my gorgeous girlfriend Lauren for reading this :-)

Nic & Emily

Thursday, July 12th, 2007

Hello friends! I’ve just returned from a magical trip to Sydney. Everything was so wonderful, almost too good to be true. I was almost going to share about everything that happened, but I might save that for a future entry. There are some exciting changes coming up!
Whilst I was in Sydney, I met with Nic and Emily to do an Engagement Shoot. We decided to do the shoot around the Sydney CBD. I’m glad we did. What a paradise for photographers. It really pushed me as the lighting is so hard to control, but if you get it right, it’s all worth the extra effort.
Nic and Emily met when he was visiting from Luxembourg and their friends decided to set them up… It worked!
Emily was telling me about how Romantic Nic is. Apparently he regularly buys her flowers, writes her little notes and buys her gifts for no reason in particular.
Yesterday’s shoot was like no shoot I have ever done in the past. I hope you love it!
