Serendipity in Vancouver

Friday, August 29th, 2008

Sometimes you meet people, for reasons beyond that are obvious straight away, and that’s completely how K and I both felt when we met to do her and R’s engagement shoot in Vancouver Canada. I was in Vancouver photographing an engagement shoot for Richard & Kristi, who met me at one of the weddings I shot in Canada, and asked If I could shoot their engagement and wedding pictures! I got the shock of my life when they told me the wedding was in Maui, Hawaii… and that they would fly me there to shoot it! Wicked!
You might remember that I put a photo of a guy with a ferrett on my blog while I was in Vancouver, and K was a blog reader, so she saw that and contacted me and organised for me to shoot her engagement photos the following morning at 7am. I’m always up for last minute randomness so I was happy!

K is a weddingbee blogger, which basically means that she’s rather famous in the online wedding world.. and thousands of brides around the world read her blog looking for inspiration for their own wedding.. so I felt EXTREMELY privileged to be asked to take these photos for her and R.

K and R are getting married this November in the Dominican Republic, and unfortunately they already booked another photographer to shoot their wedding.. but I was lucky enough to get to spend this time with them doing their engagement photos.

I can’t wait to hang out with you guys again. I will be back!

Welcome to everyone that has arrived here from WeddingBee! You know you’re totally welcome here and I hope to see you commenting and checking this place out daily!

To see more from this shoot, go to my main website www.jamesday.com.au and enter the website (not the Journal) and enter the client access code “serendipity” to view more photos.

In other news, I have Matt and Katie from the Shadowplay team visiting until tuesday. They’re rocking it out with me tomorrow at Alex and Danikas Wedding. Matt does video, Katie does photo.. so it’s going to be pretty much an intense, but fun day. We also have another Matt visiting from X-Sight Brisbane who will be shooting with us as well.. Alex and Danika are going to have a whole team of photogs, and a video!

p.s. Lauren, you’re amazing and I love you more every day.

Tahnee & Michael

Saturday, June 21st, 2008

To some of you, Tahnee may look a little familiar. It could very well be because last year I photographed her identical twin sisters wedding in Inverell. Make sure you check out her sister Maddie’s photos - Engagement /// Wedding /// Baby Jett As soon as Tahnee got engaged, I received a call asking me what dates are available and they worked around me. It’s such an amazing compliment when that happens.
Tahnee & Michael’s love grew through Texting! They tell me they got to know each other from working at McDonalds and would send lots of text messages to each other. To say that these guys are a little shy would be an understatement, but to say that they were cute would also be an understatement. Texting perhaps was a great way to get to know each other!

Side note: I remember getting my first phone, in year 11. All my “friends” would tell me that there’s no point getting one as who would want to contact me apart from my mum. They were completely right! But I love my mum so I guess that was ok!

I actually did this shoot over a month ago just before I left Australia for Canada. As a reminder for those of you that are new around here, I am in Canada until late August.

Ok, so an update on what’s going on here:

1. I forgot to post about it, but I decided to rent a car. I got a PT cruiser, the same as my mum’s, except newer, a 2008 model. I put a deposit down on a car, and have continually tried to get my money back ($500) but they keep telling me they will call me back and never will. I’m planning on doing an apple release style sit in. I plan on just sitting in their office till they actually sort the issue out (or at least let me speak to the boss). I will definitely video it and put it on the blog. I think it will be quite funny.

2. Lauren got her hair cut. I was rather sad to see the long hair go, but oh man she looks adorable. Yes, I will take pictures and share them on here.

3. Can anyone help me with some strategies on keeping up with email? I seriously suck at it, and as for all the new enquiries that come in.. I just can’t keep on top of them.

4. I have a few shoots that I will be sharing with you soon. Firstly, one will be a family portrait over here in Calgary, but with a bit of a cool twist! Second is of the wedding where you saw the photo of me sitting in the boat editing photos.
5. I’ve been noticing that a few photogs have been linking to me on their blogs. If you do, which I really hope you do, let me know and I’ll find an excuse to link back to every single one of you!

6. The amount of people reading this blog seems to have hopped, skipped and jumped over the amount I was getting before coming to Canada. So far this month, the website has had 6500 visitors. I know I’m no competition for Jessica Claire who gets that almost daily, I am still pretty happy.

Thank you for tuning in again folks! Thanks for your time reading this, and don’t forget to leave a comment!

Belinda & Alex

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

I was informed that when Belinda kissed Alex, he ran away… I’m not sure if this is true… but they certainly don’t look like either of them would run away after being kissed by the other these days! We met last week to do their engagement shoot, with a very loose plan of where we would shoot. We had planned to do a shoot a few weeks ago, but as soon as we were about to start to shoot, it belted down with rain that very second.
Belinda & Alex are so cute together..and Lou (who assisted me) and I had a time which was full of laughs.
Enjoy the photos :-)

**Also just a quick note that I am not taking on any more weddings or portraits until September 08**.

Ben & Sally

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

Sally & I have joked for years ( I feel like we have anyway ) about one day doing photos for her. I first met Sally at a Christian Youth Conference when I was a buff 17 year old… and Sal would give me massages whilst we sat in the church! She would sit in the pew behind…. anyhow.. here I am now taking her engagment pics!
I also remember times sitting in McDonalds screaming out from across the shop screaming back and forth, “i’m funnier than you are”.
Sal & I also have a song.. “would you be my girl” by Jet. Apparently Ben & Sally don’t have a song yet. I can lend the song to Ben if he would like?

So.. as far as I know, there is no beach in Armidale yet, so this was taken in Coffs, this morning at sunrise on Diggers Beach.
I travelled to Coffs last night, and went to Coffs Camera House and borrowed a 45mm tilt shift lens! I’ll explain those pics when they come along..

Then this morning after the shoot, Antony Hands, Scott Carle and myself went for breakfast

With the risk of coming across like a real egotistical maniac… don’t these pics rock? I am so proud!

p.s. Leave me comments. Yes, that means you. I’m like a busker.. I will glare at you and point you out from the crowd if you don’t put money in my hat.
