I’ve been totally slack with blogging. I have a new brand & project that will be launched before you can say “antidisestablishmentarianism”.. so about a week or two!

I’ve been saving up a few things for the new Journal that will be a part of that.. but I had to give you all something!

Here are some portrait shots that I took a few nights ago!!!

Welcome to the new James Day Journal!

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008

Hello everyone, and welcome to the new blog!

My name is Joe Hardy and I did a lot of the design and backend work for this new look. The project has been some time in the making, but we’re finally here and James and I are excited to finally unleash our work to the masses. I hope you all find it an easy-to-use and exciting way to keep up-to-date with what James has been up to.

In this post I’ll explain a few of the blog’s new features.

  • James’ first priority for this new blog was that it had to be clean and simple to use - everything you wanted to see, and nothing you don’t.
  • We’ve gone for a new approach to displaying the photos that James posts. Instead of pages and pages of photos, instead you’ll see a feature image and lots of thumbnails below it. Click a thumbnail and the new image will load right there. It saves you scrolling, and looks awesome!
  • Wondering where how you can view posts by topic? Have a look next to each post title - you’ll see one or more keywords inside a set of parentheses. Click one of these keywords, and you’ll see all posts that relate to it.
  • The logo up the top has a couple of surprises - mouse over it and you’ll see options to view a special video intro and a brief bio about James.

Please contribute your thoughts by adding comments - we’d love to hear what you think!

(P.S. I’ve included some photos to demonstrate the new image gallery. I don’t have any new photos by James to upload, so these photos I took of my daughter Nadia will have to do instead!)

Jenny Nasmith!

Friday, August 8th, 2008

In August 2006, alot of you know that I spent around a month in New York City, staying all over the place.. at one point I even dared the hostels! When I stayed in the hostel, I met a swedish guy named Jonas. We ended up hanging out together.. seeing the sights of New York with a blonde haired blue eyed swedish… GUY! Oh well…
He then introduced me to Jenny who was from Toronto, but visiting Jonas in New York because Jonas and Jenny had met while on an exchange in Japan previously. Anyhow.. we all spent some time together… then off we all went to Toronto… I was totally random back then..nothing has changed. After going to Toronto, I decided to check out Calgary.. where I met my number 1, Lauren!
So.. on the way back from New York a few weeks ago, i decided to drop in on Jenny and her family and while I was there she asked me to do a shoot of her. Sweet!

We all know that I fully love my couple shoots.. but having something else thrown in the mix helps me keep it fresh.. Enjoy these images.. Edited using the new TRA2 and my own mix of stuff!

Before heading out to Bree & Alan’s Wedding Reception, I shot a VERY quick family portrait for the Sarlo family at their gorgeous Hamptons home.

The Clark Family (in full - finally)

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

A few weeks ago now, I had the pleasure of hanging out with a very fine photographer by the name of Jason Clark, and his family which consists of him, his wife Canticle and his daughter Aurayliah who is nearly 2.
Now, I say I had the pleasure.. but I think if 5 minutes before I had the chance to back out, I think I might have. I’ll tell you why. Jason is a very accomplished photographer himself, as is Canticle, and most of you photographers would have heard of Jesh De Rox, who is Canticle’s brother. Lots of pressure! (so I thought)
Within minutes of getting into the shoot, I was completely relaxed, and just in my normal rhythm.

Enjoy these images, soak in the wonder that is a young family. Oh what an enviable position to be in.

love you all. all you love.
